Alliance Tooling Completes 16-impression Packaging Mould for High Volume Production

We have delivered a new high-speed injection mould tool for a packaging manufacturer producing millions of parts per year. The project was delivered through our Global Toolmaking Solution, a UK-managed overseas tooling service created to address the common risks associated with Far Eastern toolmaking, including inconsistent quality, communication delays and limited aftercare.
Designed and project-managed in the UK and manufactured in our dedicated Chinese toolroom, the tool was built to the same engineering and quality standards expected from our Leicestershire facility, while achieving a lower overall tooling cost.
Under this model, our UK team retains control of design intent, technical decision-making, and project management, while manufacture is completed in the Far East using the same software, equipment standards and data workflows as our UK toolroom, supporting accurate transfer of design and process requirements between sites.
High-volume packaging tooling, engineered for output
High-volume packaging programmes demand repeatable performance, stable dimensions, consistent part release, and robust construction suited to continuous production. This latest injection mould tool was specified to support high-output manufacturing and long service life, with equal focus on cosmetic requirements and process stability.
The new tool is a 16-impression mould designed for high-speed packaging applications, featuring fully hardened stainless-steel inserts and a 16-drop hot runner feed system for consistent, balanced filling across all cavities. To support reliable release at speed, the tool uses stripper plate ejection, and the moulding surfaces were completed with high gloss polished finishes to meet packaging aesthetic requirements.
“Packaging is one of the most demanding sectors for tooling because the expectations are simple and unforgiving, it has to run fast, it has to run consistently, and it has to keep running,” commented Chris Rossell, Technical Director at Alliance Tooling.
“This 16-impression tool is a good example of why we built our Global Toolmaking Solution. Customers can take advantage of the cost benefits of overseas manufacture, but the project remains UK-managed, with the same engineering approach, the same standards, and UK-backed guarantees and support once the tool is in production.”

Built overseas, controlled in the UK
While reshoring is growing, one which we can happily accommodate with our British injection mould toolmaking service, some tooling projects remain better suited to overseas manufacture due to budget, programme requirements, or tool size and complexity. Our Global Toolmaking Solution is designed to remove the typical concerns associated with Far Eastern toolmaking, including quality variation, communication delays, and limited aftercare.
Under this model, the project is entirely managed by our UK team from start to finish. Tool manufacture is completed in our Chinese toolroom using the same software, technologies, and processes as our UK operation to support consistent standards and reliable data transfer. Design oversight, modifications, and guarantees are handled in the UK, with ongoing technical support provided from Leicestershire to protect the customer’s investment over the full service life of the tool.

Full-service capability from prototype to multi-cavity production tooling
Alliance Tooling supports tooling projects ranging from small aluminium prototype moulds through to large, hardened steel multi-cavity tooling, with the in-house capability to manage the full process from design through to validation. The company works across a wide range of industries, supplying injection mould tools built for robustness, reliability and repeatable performance in production environments.
With manufacturing sites in Leicestershire and the Far East, Alliance Tooling is able to match the right build route to each project’s commercial and technical requirements, while maintaining consistent standards, controlled communication and a single point of responsibility for the customer.
